Harry Bishop Hambly: born 18 April 1863 at Snake Lake, near Quincy in Plumas County California, the 7thchild of David Hambly and Jane (Jenkin) Hambly who were both immigrants from Cornwall. Harry married Nyna Emma Sargent (1870-1956) on September 7th 1892 in San Francisco. They had four children, three sons and a daughter and lived in the San Francisco area.
Harry worked as a salesman of law books for a firm Bancroft Whitney, joining them in 1891. He was very highly regarded, affectionately known as “the Judge” and described as genial, kind and helpful to everyone with whom he came in contact. On his death in 1937 he was announced as “The Dean of Bancroft Sales Staff” after working for them for 46 years.
He published a small, ten page booklet of information about the his family titled “Genealogical Notes of the Hambly Family” in June 1903.
I found a copy of this booklet in my uncles “box of historical pieces” about the Hambly family in 2012 and you can see that it survived all manner of treatment including being used as a shopping or ingredient list at some stage. From some conversations with a few cousins, all descended from W.S.R. Hambly (Harry’s uncle), I found that some of them had also discovered a copy of this booklet in a similar state.
Harry is Roger’s 1st cousin, 3 X removed.
His opening paragraph is still very much true about the sometimes difficult nature of genealogy.

The Hambly Family has provided some wonderful stories, some of which have made their way to this blog. There have been many wonderful cousins who have contributed to the overall understanding of this remarkable family; from England, the USA, New Zealand and Australia.
